Gig Report 173: Cityscreen Basement, York – Fri 12th April 2013
We’ve had a lot of fun gigs in Cityscreen over the years and Friday’s was right up there with the best of them. Invited on to the bill by headliner Mark Wynn, we were privileged to be part of a great line-up of musicians; enough of them quirky enough for us to not feel out of place. If you’ve never heard Mark before, we strongly recommend you check him out. He’s released a lot of material over the years, and most recently doubled up with The Sorry Kisses (another great York act) to release a vinyl lp.
One of the other acts on the bill was called Eric the Viaduct. Like us they are a musical comedy double act, but a couple of decades older than us at least (I guess, I’m rubbish at estimating ages). They’re weird, they’re odd and involve a front man lead singer and a musician/backing vocalist. There’s no doubt that they’re an acquired taste. Watching them perform at our favourite and most played venue was like staring into our own future. This dawning realisation was both amusing and slightly alarming in it’s own way.
When I’m writing Gig Report 1173, I’ll try and remember this blog to see if we actually became our future selves. Or will a Terminator style paradox be created and this one possible future avoided? Only time will tell.
