PMATL…What the hell? Part 187: Hirst’s Yard, Leeds – Wed 2nd April 2014
The second gig we’d performed at with Ben Random in a week and it certainly lived up to his name.
Hirst’s Yard is a really nice bar just off the beaten track near the Corn Exchange in Leeds. We were headlining the Shits and Giggles night hosted by Ben and he did a really good job of handling a quite heckly crowd. One row in particular were a long way past merry by the time we took to the stage. Our usual pre-performance ritual of telling each other to “give it beans” was hampered by the fact I could get my mic stand and keyboard into position. Thus we spent our first 2 songs being just about as ramshackle as we’ve ever been. But whereas a couple of years ago this would have thrown us, now we seem to be a lot more comfortable with being crap on stage. That’s just who we are. It’s an act right!? It’s our modus operandi.
Anyway, the crowd seemed to be into our shambolic nature. Two of the hecklers even started getting off with each other during one of our songs. I’m taking that as a compliment. You’ve got to be pretty into musical comedy for it to make you horny.
Maybe we’re the new Robin Thicke and Pharrell. Maybe we should get some naked women in our next music video. That would put a whole new twist on our song BEARD ENVY.
Let the Lomo love-in begin…
