Today we’re taking a brief departure from our serialisation of What’s The Deal With Europe? (The novel that inspired the comedy movie Transatlantic Smash.) This is so that we can blog about the real band PMATL as we approach our 200th update (and therefore gig!)
PMATL…What the Hell? Part 199: Artsbarge Riverside Tent, The Great Yorkshire Fringe, York – Fri 31st July 2015
This PMATL update is the first in a 2 part blog documenting 2 gigs by 2 people in 2 days in 2 cities that led to our 200th ever gig. 2 good 2 be true!
The first was in York, and the 3rd time in 3 years that we’d been asked to perform at the Artsbarge Riverside Festival. This year it was even more special than usual as formed part of the programming for the first ever Great Yorkshire Fringe. We’d been asked to host a 60s music night, but the only problem was Lomo 2 was due to be in Liverpool all weekend as the best man at a wedding. However this was not a gig to be turned down, so it was up to Lomo 1 to step up to the plate and host the night on his own.
“But Lomo 1 can’t play an instrument” I hear you cry!
Well fear not, as the lovely Artsbarge crew pulled together a full band to accompany him, And I don’t just mean guitar, drums, bass and keys. I mean a FULL band. The works. Horns. Extra percussion. Everything.
Check out this glimpse from rehearsal:
Let’s just say Lomo 1 was excited, and slightly intimidated in equal measure. So would Lomo 2 have been if he’d been there. Receiving a tweet from Lomo 1 with the hand written notation for BEARD ENVY was enough to make Lomo 2 nervous for him. Still…exciting though! If only every gig could be with a full band!
The evening was a roaring success. As was the entire Great Yorkshire Fringe it seems. Let’s hope we get invited back next year!
But before any that…there was the small matter of a Liverpool based performance next day for Lomo 2…
A PMATL Tale of 2 Cities will be continued tomorrow…
